The Forest Road PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is a group of parents and guardians who collaborate to support the mission of District 102 and develop programs and activities for Forest Road students. Building the relationships between parents helps further enhance our students’ experiences at our school. The PTO is a wonderful way to get involved and to give back to the school that is building the foundation to our children’s lives.
Every parent or guardian of a student at Forest Road is warmly welcome and encouraged to attend the PTO meetings, which are held every month. The PTO has many different committees led by parent volunteers and would not be successful without the tremendous enthusiasm and participation of everyone involved. Coming to a monthly meeting (held in the school LRC) or joining a committee is a great way to meet other parents, get involved in your child’s school, share your talents, and contribute to the caring Forest Road community. Fundraising is a reality for all schools. However, this year, we have decided to focus most of our fundraising efforts one one big event in October, the Boosterthon. This allows us to raise a larger amount of money earlier in the year so that all the children who participate can benefit from what is raised.
Some of the smaller fundraisers we do the rest of the year include our Annual Used Toy Sale, Parent Trivia Night in the fall, Progressive Dinner in the spring, Box Tops digital collection, Restaurant Nights, and Flying High Nights. There is something for everyone with the PTO-sponsored fundraisers and we rely upon the help of our talented and generous parent community as volunteers and supporters alike. Learn More »
The PTO supports curricular and non-curricular requests. Each year we contribute funds to every teacher to purchase supplies, STEM items, and alternative seating for their classrooms, provide each student with a birthday book, and organize school assemblies. We also create and maintain the online directory, provided to all families. Other things we support include: the yearbook, themed social nights for students, Valentine’s Day Italian ice treats for all the students, holiday parties, fun lunch, art enrichment in the classrooms, the Back-to-School Party, and Field Day at the end of the school year. We also coordinate a large amount of teacher and staff appreciation throughout the year and during May’s teacher appreciation week.
In the last few years, the PTO has also funded a large climbing wall in the school gymnasium, the Gaga Ball pit on the playground, and built-in electronic screens in every classroom to help modernize instruction. Learn More »
